Over the past few days, high tides have flooded a
number of provinces in the Mekong Delta, causing damage to local
vegetable and aqua farms, as well as causing severe landslips.
In inner Can Tho Province, the water
level in almost rivers has continued to rise, bringing severe floods to
many streets and houses.
In Kien Luong, Hon Dat, An Minh and An
Bien Districts of Kien Giang Province, flood water has submerged more
than 3,000 hectares of vegetables and 1,000 hectares of aqua farms.
In Ca Mau Province, high tides have
caused landslips to many sections of the coastline in the east,
particularly in Ganh Hao and Ho Gui seaports.
Landslips have also occurred on 20
different sections of the 92 kilometer dyke system running from Dat Mui
Commune, Ngoc Hien District to the area bordering Kien Giang Province.
In Cai Cam seaport of Phu Tan District,
high tides and large waves swept away 70 meters of embankment and 40
meters of sea dykes, while waves also swept away many trees in the
protected forests in U Minh coastal province.
Over the past few years, sea waves have
swept away some 100 hectares of land lying along the coast of Ca Mau
Sea, causing damage to many local people’s houses, public works and
agricultural infrastructure.
