VN hopes for WB’s stronger climate change help |

Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải on November 10 received Mr. Andrew Steer, who is a special envoy of the World Bank (WB) in climate change, saying that Việt Nam wishes to gain more help from the bank for dealing with climate change.
Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải highly appreciated Mr. Andrew Steer in his role as the WB country director in the 1997-2002 period, expressing his hopes that in the new capacity as the WB special envoy he will continue helping Việt Nam in tacklinng climate change in particular and expanding cooperative ties between the bank and Việt Nam in general.
The Deputy PM stressed that the Vietnamese Government wants the WB to assist in climate change prevention and fight as Việt Nam is one of the countries hardest hit by climate change and sea level rise.
The country expects to have access to the WB’s soft loans for its programs and projects on afforestation in coastal areas, building dykes, and enhancing the capacity of preventing and fighting floods and high tides in Hồ Chí Minh City and central localities.
Mr. Andrew Steer said he will help Việt Nam gain access to funds and technical assistance from the funds which have been jointly established by the WB and its co-sponsors.
