The common growth in the Southeast Asian region is still dependent heavily on dynamism of the ASEAN business community, said Vietnamese PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.
The Vietnamese Government chief made the remarks today in Hà Nội at the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ASEAN BIS 2010).
According to the PM, the growth of ASEAN is attributed to the establishment of frameworks for ASEAN economic linkages in the cause of building the Economic Community, an important pillar of the ASEAN Community.
This process will create chain linkages among enterprises in ASEAN and East Asia, further labor allocation in the region, enhance the region’s competitiveness, and generate more jobs, thus contributing to narrowing the rich-poor and development gaps and maintaining social stability, said Mr. Dũng.
However, according to the host leader, the establishments of institutional frameworks to build up an ASEAN Economic Community and an ASEAN+1 Free Trade Areas network remain to be initial steps. Whether these efforts can turn into business success of enterprises in particular and the strong growth of the region in general is still dependent heavily on dynamism of the Business Community, he added.
The Vietnamese Government pledges to create favorable conditions and shake hands with other ASEAN members to facilitate investment and trade within the bloc towards the establishment of the economic pillar and a sustained ASEAN Community.
Under the theme “Towards the ASEAN Community: From vision to action,” ASEAN-BIS 2010 is an event on the sidelines of the 17th ASEAN Summit scheduled on October 28-30.
ASEAN-BIS 2010 draws the participation of 500 enterprises from inside and outside Việt Nam. There are different rounds of talks between ASEAN and its strategic partners like Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, and the Russian Federation.
