VN, Philippines leaders exchange measures to boost bilateral ties PDF Print E-mail

27102010.jpgState President Nguyễn Minh Triết and Filipino President Benigno S. Aquino III on Tuesday exchanged a wide range of measures to boost the relations between Việt Nam and the Philippines.

The Vietnamese State President appreciated the visit made by the Filipino President, noting it would significantly contribute to the advancement of the bilateral friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries.

Việt Nam and the Philippines adopted a Joint Statement to set up a framework for bilateral cooperation in the first 25 years of the 21st century.

The two sides vowed to consolidate and enhance the ralations in line with their potentials, and toward the 35th anniversary of their diplomatic establishment in 2011.

State President Triết and his Filipino counterpart were pleased with the robust bilateral economic ties, as shown by the two-way trade value of US $2 billion, preset for 2010, gained two years ago.

They committed to expanding cooperation in national defense, agriculture, education-training, and maritime sector.

They also stressed the importance of the Joint Committee between Việt Nam and the Philippines and agreed to convene its sixth meeting soon.

Regarding regional and interantional issues of common concern, the two sides spoke highly of their continued coordination in such forums as ASEAN, ARF, EAS, ASEM, APEC, and the UN.

The two leaders shared the same view that peace and stability in the Eastern Sea is a common interest and aspiration of the regional countries. Most importantly, the DOC and COC in the future should be abided by all parties, they emphasized.

State President Triết also appreciated the Philippines’s support and assistance to Việt Nam as the Chair of ASEAN in 2010.

On the occasion, some agreements were signed.
