State President hosts reception for excellent students
Hanoi (VNA) – One hundred and twenty-five winners of “Hoa Trang Nguyen” prize, which honours students with outstanding study records, become special guests of State President Nguyen Minh Triet in Hanoi on August 22.
They included winners of international Olympiads, excellent students of national contests, and those who topped entrance exams to universities and colleges nationwide.
President Triet showed his delight with the excellent records these special guests have obtained and praised them for overcoming difficulties they met in life to bring fame to their families and the nation as well.
On the occasion, he expressed thanks to teachers and educators for making valuable contributions to training talents for the nation.
Dinh Minh Anh, who won a gold medal at the International Physics Olympiad, Nguyen Thi Linh Chi, who bagged the top prize at the national literature competition and Tang Van Binh, who topped the entrance exam to the Hanoi Foreign Trade University, vowed, on behalf of others, to become useful citizens to the country.
These students received their prizes earlier the same day at a ceremony co-organised by the Party Central Committee’s Education and Information Commission and the Tan Tao Group.-Enditem

ETF Vietnam likely to experience decent growth, says website
Washington (VNA) - Vietnamese economy and the country-related exchange traded fund (ETF) may experience some decent growth for the year though Fitch Ratings downgraded Vietnam's sovereign rating to B+, said the website http://www.etftrends.com .
ETF Vietnam, named Van Eck Market Vectors Vietnam (VMN), tracks a custom index of equities from firms that generate more than 50 percent of their revenues in Vietnam. Van Eck launched the ETF Vietnam on the New York exchange market a year ago.
According to the website, as the Vietnamese dong depreciated, VMN has been trading few points down.
The web quoted Joshua Ritchie as writing for MintLife that the biggest driver in Vietnam’s economy is export growth. The country benefits from having a young and ambitious population to add to the future growth of the country.
Additionally, Vietnam is rich in natural beauty and offers a large tourism industry. Various tax incentives have also been implemented to lure producers and entrepreneurs to Vietnam, the web said.
It affirmed that Vietnam has seen many positive changes that helped boost living conditions for local people and attract more foreign investors.-Enditem

Outstanding businesses and executives honoured
Hanoi (VNA) – A ceremony was held in Hanoi on August 22 to honour outstanding businesses and business executives.
Present at the event Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung presented golden cups to 42 brilliant business executives.
As many as 50 businesses gained the reputation for successes they have made in productivity, quality, socio-economic efficiency, technological renewal, and environmental protection.
Also at the event, 29 businesses were honoured for sparing no effort in making and development their trademarks.
Cao Ky Kiem, President of the Vietnam Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Association, said these awards look to encourage Vietnamese and foreign-invested businesses to make quality commodities and establish prestigious trademarks in service of consumers inside and outside the country.-Enditem

Vietnam, Laos cooperate in archives
Vientiane (VNA) - Vietnam and Laos signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in Vientiane on August 21 to draw up cooperation plans in the archives area in 2011 and the 2011-2015 period.
Signatories were Vu Thi Minh Huong, head of the State Department for Records and Archive of Vietnam and Oun kham L.Southivong, head of the Laos National Archive Department.
Under the MoUs, both sides highlighted the results of implementing cooperation plans in the recent past and agreed to work closely to put into operation the National Archives Centre in Vientiane in the first quarter of 2011.
In addition, Vietnam will continue to help Laos in personnel training, transfer of technologies and management of the centre.
The two sides will also ask their governments for permissions to exchange a list of documents related to the history of both countries and continue to exchange documents on archive skills, and related information and activities.-Enditem
