thamnhung.jpgVGP – The Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption introduced a package of six criteria to thrash corruption at an international seminar convened this morning.

Delegates to the event include leaders of the Government Inspectorate, the Ministry of Public Security, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the Fatherland Front, United Nations Development Agency, the World Bank, and the Transparency International.

The criteria are applied in measuring anti-corruption work through (i) the perfection of legal framework, (ii) results of preventive measures and some prosecuted corruption cases, (iii) self-evaluation of organizations and competent agencies over anti-corruption, (iv) public opinions and mass media, (v) realization of socio-economic development tasks, political stability social order and safety, and (vi) comments by some international organizations.

Delegates from the international organizations said Việt Nam’s criteria are appropriate and feasible as they are also commonly applied worldwide.

Since 2007, some 1,063 corruption cases with 2,331 individuals have been brought to the courts; some 1,201 other cases and 2,991 individuals have been prosecuted.

In three consecutive years from 2007-2009, Việt Nam’s anti-corruption performance was improved on year-on-year basis, according to the Transparency International.
