(CPV)- Vietnam’s trade environment ranking jumped by 18, from 89th to 71st, among 125 economies in the world, according to the Global Enabling Trade Index (ETI) Report 2010 released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The report said Vietnam is one of the countries improving its ranks most rapirdly in the global trade environment of 2010. Margareta Drzeniek Hanouz, Senior Economist at the World Economic Forum and co-editor of the Global Enabling Trade Report said this is a result of Vietnam’s WTO accession in 2007.

WEF said Vietnam’s trade environment improvement reflected the implementation of engagements to open the commodity and service market when the country joined the World Trade Organization. As a result of this, Vietnam’s tariff barrier was reduced and local exporters had more opportunities to trade with other WTO members.

Singapore and Hong Kong SAR continue to lead the report, followed by Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland. New Zealand, Norway, Canada, Luxembourg and the Netherlands complete the top-10 list.

The report was published for the third year in a row and covers 125 economies worldwide.
