Canada has invited Vietnam, as the Chairman of ASEAN, to the G20 Summit in Toronto this June. Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister, Leonard Edwards, delivered the invitation here in Vietnam.

The Canadian foreign official on April 27 met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem and Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh in Hanoi.

The two sides exchanged information about the G20 Summit, which is scheduled on June 26-27 in Toronto. They will discuss further the relationship between ASEAN and Canada and some issues of their shared concerns.

Khiem thanked Canada’s invitation and said that Vietnam and other ASEAN countries are preparing for the summit.

He said that the two countries need to strengthen cooperation in education-training and cultural exchange.

Edwards confirmed that the Canadian government decides to maintain its official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam.

During his trip to Vietnam this time, Edwards chaired a meeting about the G20 Summit in Hanoi with many other ASEAN representatives.
