France-Vietnam friendship association supports AO victims
Hanoi (VNA) – President of
the France-Vietnam Friendship Association Helene Luc has affirmed that
the association will continue to support Vietnamese victims of Agent
Orange/dioxin
Meeting with Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Trong Dam in Hanoi on April 26, Helene Luc expressed her pity to Vietnamese AO victims.
According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Trong Dam, there are about 5 million of disabled people in Vietnam , including a large number of AO victims.-Enditem
National-level anniversary marks Ho Chi Minh’s birthday
Hanoi (VNA) – A national-level anniversary will be held in Hanoi to mark the 120 th birthday of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19) and 20 years of UNESCO recognising him as Vietnamese hero of national liberation and great man of culture.
The event will take place at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Martyrs’ Memorial and Friendship Culture Palace from early morning of May 18 and be televised live, according to the Prime Minister’s Decision 505/QD-TTg on the celebrations.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh is head of the organising board, which comprises of four deputies and 13 other members.
The anniversary also includes other art and culture activities, seminars.-Enditem
Federation of UNESCO associations holds congress
Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations held its fourth congress for the 2010-2015 term in Hanoi on April 26.
The congress, attracting 300 delegates, reviewed the federation’s activities during the 2006-2010 term and put forth action plan for the organisation in the new term.
In the next five years, the federation will develop its network of members, improve membership capacity, strengthen organisational structure and actively take part in the country’s activities.-Enditem

Index withstands profit-takers
Hanoi (VNA) — The VN-Index withstood strong profit-taking pressure from investors on April 26, ending the session up 0.36 percent to 531.21 points.
As investor attention started shifting back to blue chips, trading volume increased to more than 63 million shares, worth a total of 2.45 trillion VND (129 million USD).
Losers outnumbered gainers by 112-86, with 13 codes hitting their floor prices.
Saigon Securities Inc (SSI) was the most-active share, with nearly 3.8 million shares changing hands – accounting for nearly 6 percent of the total market volume. SSI shares gained by 900 VND per share to end the day at 45,100 VND.
Among blue chips posting gains, PetroVietnam Finance (PVF) saw its second consecutive day of increases, hitting its ceiling price at 31,500 VND per share.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange yesterday, small caps plunged across the board, and the HNX-Index closed down by 1.32 percent to 175.98. Trading value reached 1.6 trillion VND (84.2 million USD) on a volume of over 42.5 million shares.
Vinaconex (VCG) was the most active share on the northern bourse with 495,000 traded, worth 26 billion VND (1.3 million USD).
Foreign investors concluded the day's trades as net buyers on both exchanges, picking up shares worth a net of 294.7 billion VND (15.5 million USD).-Enditem
