HA NOI — Close to 6,000 schools across Viet Nam will continue to improve their education management systems after the European Commission pledged to help the country continue carrying out the Support to the Renovation of Education Management System (SREM) project.

The announcement was made at a two-day conference, which concluded yesterday in Nha Trang City in Khanh Hoa Province.

The meeting created a venue for participants to discuss methods and measures to implement the SREM project in 2010, and introduced two new systems for managing libraries and school equipment.

The project is designed to improve the capacity of education management at relevant ministries and agencies and at school levels. It also hopes to improve information technology systems.

A series of post-conference training workshops will be held to help education and training departments around the country develop information systems, which includes Project Management Information System (PMIS), Education Management Information System (EMIS) and Vietnamese EMIS (V.EMIS).

Launched in 2006, the SREM project has a total of 14.4 million euros (US$19.6 million) in funds, of which the EC contributed 12 million euros while the remaining funds were provided by the Vietnamese Government. — VNS
