Total 608 more people were found having HIV
in February, decreasing by
45% against that of January, yet the number of those who died from AIDS
increased by 48%, according to the Ministry of Health.
The newly found HIV patients and AIDS deaths raise the
respective numbers to 161,691 and 36,183, the ministry said, noting that it is
working with the Ministry of Public Security to enforce HIV/AIDS prevention
programme during 2011-2015 period and hold a programme to commemorate 20 years Vietnam
struggling with the disease.
To curb the spread of HIV/AIDS among infected drug abusers, the country will
maintain using methadone, a synthetic drug, as a therapeutic tool to detoxify
addicts at detoxification centres in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Haiphong,
and establish 18 new bases at seven provinces and cities nationwide this year.
