City walk raises 6.13 billion VND for poor
Monday, 16 November 2009
More
than 6.13 billion VND was raised during a charity walk in Ho Chi Minh City on Nov. 15 to support local
poor residents.
The
event, held in response to the “Month for the Poor” launched by the city’s
Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, drew the participation of approximately
10,000 people from all walks of life.
The sum will be used to build houses and provide
set-up-shop capital for poor households and social policy beneficiaries in the
city’s 20 poorest wards and communes.
During last year’s event, participants contributed
over 6.2 billion VND and 1,000 USD.
In the first nine months of 2009, the municipal
Fund for the Poor collected almost 7 billion VND granted by agencies,
establishments, organisations, businesses and individuals./
