In the
third quarter of 2009, 11,200 labourers lost jobs from enterprises, a fall of
83% compared to the first quarter, the Ministry of Labour, War-Invalids and
Social Affairs (MOLISA) reported.
According to MOLISA, Hanoi saw no laid-off labourers in the third
quarter while it reported over 13,000 laid-off labourers in the first quarter.
Similarly, HaiPhongCity
had no laid-off labourers in the third quarter while over 4,000 labourers lost
jobs in the first quarter.
However, some localities still reported a high
number of laid-off labourers such as DanangCity (nearly 3,000), Ha
Tinh, Thanh Hoa and Nam Dinh provinces (over 1,000 each). These labourers work
primarily for foreign-invested enterprises which did business in the footwear,
textile and garment, seafood processing, construction, automobile and wood
processing industries.
MOLISA forecasts that together with the
investment and consumption stimulus package, from now till the end of the year,
the number of laid-off labourers will continue to fall over the final three
months because there will be an increase in the recruitment of labourers. Binh
Duong province is expected to employ 20,000, Long An province, 8,700 and Vinh
Long province, 7,000 labourers.
