On September 9th 2011, in response to question about Human Rights Watch’s “The Rehab Archipelago: Forced Labor and Other Abuses in Drug Detention Centers in Southern Viet Nam” report released on September 7th 2011, Madam Nguyen Phuong Nga, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, said:

The Vietnamese Government highly values the Cambodian Government’s closure of its Phnom Penh temporary camp for ethnic minority people of the Central Highlands of Vietnam, in accordance with the schedule Cambodia had previously announced, said a spokesperson from the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry.

Question: How do you comment on the assessment on religious freedom in Viet Nam made by the U.S. State Department in its Annual Report on International Religious Freedom 2010?

Answer:
"In Viet Nam, the rights to freedom of belief and religion of the Vietnamese people are enshrined in the national Constitution and are respected and guaranteed in reality. This fact is acknowledged by the international community.

The U.S. State Department Report on the International Religious Freedom 2010 continues to produce biased assessment that is built on incorrect information on Viet Nam."
