Government-supported U.S. education agency opens in Hanoi

Vietnamese students can now get access to the most accurate source of
information on study opportunities in the U.S. at the EducationUSA Advising
Center recently opened in Hanoi.
Joining
the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has offered Vietnam a wealth of opportunities
to speed up economic development, boost its exports and attract more foreign
direct investment (FDI).
The Vietnam-US relationship is at the strongest
point than it has ever been since diplomatic ties were resumed in 1995 and
continues to grow each day, US
Ambassador to Vietnam M. Michalak has said.
Michalak made the statement at a press conference held in Hanoi on June 29 to highlight the 15 th
anniversary of normalisation of Vietnam-US relations.
The 6th session of the
National Committee for ASEAN took place on June 28 with Deputy Prime
Minister-cum-Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, who is also the
committee’s president, as the chair.
The Vatican has announced a
significant step forward in relations with Vietnam: a plan to name a
“non-resident representative” of the Holy See to the Vietnamese
government.

VGP – Việt Nam and ASEAN
appreciate the initiatives in reforming international financial
institutions towards better transparency and effectiveness and
upholding the status of developing and emerging economies, said PM
Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.
A five-million USD project
to clean up hotspots of dioxin contamination in Vietnam was signed in
Hanoi on June 28 by representatives from the Ministry of Natural
Resources and Environment and the United Nations Development Programme
(UNDP).
The
second meeting of the Vietnam-Vatican Joint Working Group was held in the Vatican on June
23-24. The
Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Cuong, and
the Vatican delegation by Undersecretary for
Relations with States Ettore Balestrero.
Vietnam is increasingly becoming an active member of the
international community, said Canadian newspaper the Toronto
Sun on June 26 as Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung took part in the G20 Summit in
Canada.

Dung has voiced ASEAN’s support for joint efforts to achieve strong,
sustainable and balanced growth and create a strong financial system as
a nucleus for sustainable development.
